演講大綱:
The focal point of this lecture is on embodied knowledge, using Capoeira Angola as a case study. My position is that embodied knowledge can be understood as a fundamental and powerful means of knowing, which exists alongside logocentric and theoretical knowledge. An introduction to what embodied knowledge is will frame the lecture and will be followed by a brief description of the practice of Capoeira Angola, and how it is an embodied epistemology. One of the key points will be that through the practice of Capoeira Angola, people come to understand and exchange nuanced conceptions of power (and power relations) through physical and musical interaction. This has wider implications in terms of how we come to know things and extends more broadly to practice/action. The lecture will be drawing from a range of sources such as phenomenology, Lakoff and Johnson’s Philosophy in the Flesh, Foucault, Arendt, as well as Capoeira and Practice as Research (PaR) scholarship.
